วจนทัศนูปกรณ์ (speakingeye) เกิดมาจากแนวคิดที่จะคิดค้นวิธีการมองเห็นโดยไม่ต้องใช้ดวงตา เผื่อจะนำมาประยุกต์ใช้ประโยชน์ต่อไป เช่น การผลิตอุปกรณ์สำหรับช่วยเหลือการมองเห็นแก่ผู้พิการทางสายตา เป็นต้น
ข้อมูล แนวคิด ประสบการณ์ต่างๆ ในเว็บไซต์แห่งนี้ ถือเป็นสมบัติสาธารณะ ทุกคนสามารถนำไปศึกษา ค้นคว้า หรือคิดค้นเพิ่มเติมได้

การใช้ประสาทสัมผัสทดแทนเพื่อช่วยเหลือผู้ที่สูญเสียประสาทสัมผัส ทำได้เช่น การใช้ภาษามือ เพื่อให้ข้อมูลหรือบอกเล่าเรื่องราวแก่คนหูหนวก หรือการใช้อักษรเบรลล์เพื่อช่วยให้คนตาบอดสามารถอ่านหนังสือได้โดยการสัมผัส แต่สิ่งเหล่านี้ต้องอาศัยการเรียนรู้อย่างมาก เพราะเป็นการเรียนรู้ภาษาใหม่ ต้องใช้ความสามารถ ความจำ และระยะเวลาในการเรียน ในปัจจุบัน มีการจัดทำหนังสือเสียง ที่อาสาสมัครได้อ่านหนังสือแล้วบันทึกเสียงไว้ ให้คนตาบอดสามารถรับฟัง และเข้าใจเรื่องราวต่างๆได้ง่าย โดยไม่จำเป็นต้องเรียนรู้ภาษาใหม่ จึงเป็นจุดเริ่มต้นของแนวคิดที่จะพัฒนา ใช้เสียงมาช่วยเหลือบอกเล่าสิ่งต่างๆรอบตัว หรือที่เผชิญ ให้คนตาบอดได้รับรู้ โดยการประยุกต์เทคโนโลยีต่างๆมาใช้งานร่วมกัน
